Hanceville, Ala. — Wallace State Community College will host LifeSouth Community Blood Centers and Sophia’s Giving Hands Foundation on Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Hanceville campus, for a blood drive held in memory of Sophia Zeigler.

Zeigler tragically lost her life to gun violence at the age of 19, shortly after being accepted at Wallace State to pursue her dream of becoming a sonographer. Her family established a scholarship in her memory with the Wallace State Future Foundation that is awarded twice a year to support minority female students in the sonography program. Additionally, the Sophia’s Giving Hands Foundation was created to continue her spirit of compassion, with a mission to support victims of domestic violence and gun violence.

The Aug. 26 blood drive will be the third blood drive they have held in her memory. Two mobile LifeSouth units will be parked behind the Garlan E. Gudger Student Center to accept blood denotations. Free drinks, snacks, pizza and prizes will be available, and donors will receive a custom t-shirt.
