Wallace State Lions Competing for Conference Title
Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College’s Volleyball team will attempt to win the college’s 25th conference title when it competes this weekend at the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Volleyball Championship to be held at Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheatre in Albertville.
The winner of this tournament will host the winner of the Region 23 (Mississippi) tournament for the NJCAA South District Championship on Nov. 9, with a trip to the NJCAA DII National Tournament Nov. 20-23 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on the line.
Ranked as the No. 1 seed in the ACCC North division, Wallace State will face off against Bishop State, the No. 4 seed in the South division, on Friday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. Play will continue through Sunday in the double-elimination tournament.
Wallace State heads into the tournament with an 11-1 conference record and 33-9 overall. Under Head Coach Randy Daniel, the Lions have won 17 consecutive regular season titles and can claim 136 straight regular season conference home wins.
As the defending Region 22 champions, a win would mark the 15th time in 16 years that the Lions’ have walked away with the ACCC championship trophy.
Leading the team this year has been freshman Kailey Dickerson of Wellington. Dickerson tops the individual leader boards in the ACCC for kills (468) and kills per set (3.55). She and three other Wallace State players account for four of the top five players in the ACCC for kills. Sophomore Chloe Jackson of Athens has 368, freshman Amanda Monge of Davenport, Fla., has 335, and freshman Rachel Mecklenberg of Madison has 332. Sophomore Abby McDonald of Cullman is second in the ACCC in digs, coming up with 456 so far this season.
The ACCC Volleyball Championship games will be held in the Fitness Center at Sand Mountain Park, 1325 S.M.P.A. Blvd., Albertville. Spectators will park in Lot 5, located behind the Fitness Center.
