Wallace State Releases Fine and Performing Arts Season Schedule
Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College’s Fine and Performing Arts program has announced its schedule for the 2024-2025 performance season. A total of 11 performances will be held on campus with several favorite events returning as well as a number of new shows.
Peter and the Starcatcher
The Wallace State Theatre program will kick things off with its production of “Peter and the Starcatcher” Nov. 8-10 at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre in the Garlan E. Gudger Sr. Student Center. This musical production tells the story of the origins of Peter Pan. Shows will be held at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. Admission is a $10 donation for adults, $5 for students and children under 12.
Salute to United States Veterans
Wallace State’s Concert Band and Jazz Band will honor our nation’s veterans with its annual “Salute to United States Veterans,” on Monday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., in the Burrow Center Recital Hall. Admission is free and all area veterans are encouraged to attend.
The Nutcracker
The Allegro Dance Theatre in conjunction with Ballet South will present its annual production of “The Nutcracker” Nov. 23-24 at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre in the Gudger Student Center. Shows will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 23 and at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 24. Admission is $17 for adults, $12 for children 10 and under and $5 for Wallace State students.
Christmas Spectacular
The annual “Christmas Spectacular” will round out the performances for the fall semester and features all the Wallace State performing ensembles, including the Jazz Band, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Choir, Wallace State Singers, Allegro Dance Theatre, and Wallace State Theatre. The performance will be on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m., at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre in the Gudger Student Center. Admission is free.
Broadway Night
The annual “Broadway Night” will kick off events for the Spring 2025 semester on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. The event allows Wallace State students to show off their skills and talents as they choose the songs they will sing and the choreography. Broadway night will be held in the Burrow Center Recital Hall. Admission is a $10 donation.
Little Women
Wallace State Theatre will present a musical adaptation of “Little Women” March 7-9 at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre in the Gudger Student Center. Shows will be held at 7 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, March 7-8 and at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 9. Admission is a $10 donation for adults, $5 for students and children under 12.
Chaos/Connection
The Wallace State Vocal Ensembles, which include the Wallace State Singers and Wallace State Choir, will perform “Chaos/Connection” March 14-15 at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre in the Gudger Student Center. Shows will be held at 7 p.m., each night. Admission is a $10 donation for adults and $5 for students and children under 12. The ensembles will take this show on the road to Washington, D.C., March 21-26 to “use the power of song to weave together a story for every person, every experience, and every heart who has ever needed to find peace, love, joy and connection.”
Spring Showcase
Allegro Dance Theatre will present its annual “Spring Showcase” on Thursday March 20 at 7 p.m., at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre in the Gudger Student Center. The student-generated performance showcases the students’ talents in choreography, costuming and more. Admission is a $10 donation for adults, $5 for students and children under 12.
Solo & Chamber Ensemble Recital
The “Solo & Chamber Ensemble Recital” will be held on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m., in the Burrow Center Recital Hall. The event will feature instrumental and vocal performances by Wallace State’s small ensembles and soloists.
Big Band Dance
Wallace State Jazz Band will celebrate more than 45 years when it holds its annual “Big Band Dance” on Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m., at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Admission is a $10 donation for adults and $5 for students and children under 12. In recognition of over 45 years of existence, the Jazz Band is also forming a WSCC Alumni Band. Spring Under the Stars
“Spring Under the Stars” is the final event of the 2024-2025 season and provides a recap of all the performances from the season from all the ensembles. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. Food trucks will be on hand. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor seating. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved into the Burrow Center.
