Wallace State Women’s Cross Country moves up in national poll

Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Women’s Cross Country moved up four spots to 3^rd place in the USTFCCA NJCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll and the men maintained their 7th place standing in the men’s poll. Both teams finished in fifth place at the Montevallo Falcon Classic on Sept. 16 at the University of Montevallo.

Runners Claire Deaton and Brady Helms each earned Runner of the Week honors from the Alabama Community College Conference for their performances in the race. Earning her second ACCC Runner of the Week honors, Deaton finished in 21st place, with Ivy Edge, Rudi Derrick and Abigale Vega all finishing in the top 30. Helms came in at 18 in the men's race, with Johnathan Phillips right behind him at 19 and Luke Kennedy and Luke Holcombe finishing in the top 30.

The teams next run Sept. 30 at the Toppers Trail Invitational in Blue Mountain, MS.

Volleyball ranked 19th in nation; extends record to 18-2 for the season

The Wallace State Volleyball team broke into the NJCAA Division II top 20 rankings, coming in at 19 for the week of Sept. 25. The team extended its record to 18-2 after a series of wins at Snead State Community College and at the Wallace State Fall Bash tournament. The team is enjoying a 12-game winning streak.

The Lions defeated Snead State 3-2 on the road before coming home to host the Fall Bash. The Lions then took care of wins against Calhoun Community College (3-1), Enterprise State Community College (3-1), 18th ranked Division I Vincennes University (3-2) and Roane State Community College (3-0).

The Lions face conference foes Bevill State and Calhoun Community College on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, respectively.

 

Women’s golf starts season with fifth place finish for team, second place for Haithcock

Wallace State Women’s Golf finished in fifth place at their first match of the fall season, with sophomore Aiden Haithcock coming in second place overall at the Firehawk Invitational in Athens.

Haithcock, of Homewood, finished at -3 under par for total of 141, just three shots behind the first-place finisher.

As a team, the Lions came in behind William Carey College, tournament host UT Southern and Loyola University, who tied at second place, and Campbellsville University.

The Wallace State Women’s Golf team is coming off a successful spring season, where they earned their sixth Alabama Community College Conference championship, a NJCAA District title and finished 12th in the nation.

The team will next compete on their home course at Cross Creek Golf Course Oct 16-17.
