Wallace State’s volleyball team has season at NJCAA National Championship, closing campaign with 43-10 record
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s volleyball team had its fantastic season end over
the weekend at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship
in Hutchinson, Kan.
Wallace State finished the season with a 43-10 record, winning the program’s 12th Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) tournament championship in 13 seasons.
The Lions, coached by Randy Daniel, also earned their 14th straight ACCC regular-season title and made a 20th appearance at nationals.
The Lions dropped a pair of matches at nationals against Butler (Kan.) CC (18-25,
23-25, 13-25) and Northeastern (Colo.) Junior College (25-18, 15-25, 23-25, 20-25).
Sophomore Savannah Rutledge, a 2nd-team NJCAA All-American as a freshman and the 2021 ACCC Player of the Year, combined
for 63 assists and 15 digs in the tournament, while libero Temperance Chatman finished
with 44 digs.
Madeline Snow racked up 24 kills and 21 digs for the Lions, Haven Hall had 21 kills,
Chloe Shadden finished with 13 digs and Madison Raybon added 11 kills combined.
Rutledge, Chatman and Hall each made history at Wallace State.
Rutledge, an Albertville native, is the program’s all-time assists leader with 2,792
career assists, and she led the nation in assists this season.
Chatman, a Jasper native, led the NJCAA ranks with 855 digs this season, setting the
single-season and career digs mark (1,449) for the program.
Hall, a Geraldine native, had a conference-best 528 kills – which is the 3rd-best single-season mark in school history.
As the ACCC Player of the Year, Rutledge was named to the All-ACCC First Team in addition
to Chatman and Hall.
Hall was the ACCC Tournament MVP in October and Rutledge and Chatman were All-Tournament
selections in both the ACCC and Gulf Atlantic District Tournaments.
The team went 20-0 in ACCC play, extending their home conference winning streak to
114 matches - a stretch dating back to 2008.
Remaining members of the 2021 team, not previously mentioned, are Daisy Manasco, Laci
Reese, Megan Edmond, Tobi Trotter, Grace Allen, Lexi Shadix, Mallie Williams, Abi
Orton, Teagan Hartman, Ashlyn Heatherly, Mallie Williams and Kada Milne.
Daniel has compiled a 552-113 record at Wallace State in 15 seasons.
